THE CANTERBURY TALES

AFTER GEOFFREY CHAUCER

14 JULY – 1 AUGUST 2015

Presented by GEORGE GEORGIOU INC in association with NEW THEATRE

“Folks of all kinds, met in accidental
Companionship, for they were pilgrims all;
It was to Canterbury that they rode.”

A rag tag group of pilgrims are on the road to Canterbury to worship some blessed bones. A wager is raised: whoever can tell the best story will win a free dinner at the pub. In the Canterbury Tales, these stories are recounted.

Part Australian talent quest, part medieval swamp-circus, this new adaptation will be a raucous, dizzying grab bag of five-star entertainment.

Geoffrey Chaucer’s 14th century comedy, is the first piece of literature written in common English. This musical adaptation is examination of the medieval roots of mainstream Anglo Saxon Australia. Where have we come from? Where are we going? What the hell are we doing?

Stampede with us. Bombard with us. Raise the banners of your soul as we storm the sand-lands of possibility. Face the flames within as we interrogate our failures and achievements.

This is a quest for spiritual exaltation and final absolution.

“You only get one shot at the big time” – The Knight

So don’t miss out, join our Host for an unmissable evening: a human spectacle of dark age proportions.
