14 April – 7 May 2011

Presented by Arthur, in association with The Spare Room

“Hearst’s play is bleakly humorous … Rattray draws very good performances from her cast … Dirtyland gives this laudable initiative [The Spare Room] just the kick-start it needs” Jason Blake, Sydney Morning Herald

“Strong, committed performances … A journey worth taking” Time Out

“A contemporary warning and reminder of our susceptibility to reigns of terror … The performances are energised and utterly compelling” crikey.com

“Complex, brutal, and a times very funny … an ensemble of strength, talent and energy … This dirty land is worth a visit.” OzBabyBoomers

What won’t Anya do to get away from her dirty, dirty land?

There is a burnt patch of grass in the middle of town that won’t grow back.
Half the town is hiding a secret.
The other half is missing.

A dark, adult fairytale. A haunting and subversive examination of the will to survive. Welcome to Dirtyland. Sharp, atmospheric and rebelliously comic, Dirtyland is a world with heart, plenty of guts and a fair bit of rock and roll.

Developed and presented as part of PlayWriting Australia’s National Play Festival 2009.
