22 – 26 SEPTEMBER 2015
NEW THEATRE, IN ASSOCIATION WITH SYDNEY FRINGE 2015, PRESENTS
“If I don’t fight then what do I do? After death, after people die, after thunder in my blood? What’s it all been for? It doesn’t stop. It never stops. We fight. We win. We carry on”
Carl doesn’t fit in at home. He doesn’t fit in anywhere. When he signs up for the army, he sees it as a way out of his life in Blackpool. But the army takes him to Afghanistan. And when he comes home it is not as a war hero but as a changed man. This is an arresting, angry look at conflict and its effect on soldiers returning home to a world they no longer know how to cope with and a society that does not know how to cope with them.
Britannia Waves the Rules won the Judges’ Award in the 2011 Bruntwood Prize for playwriting and premièred in 2014 at the Royal Exchange in Manchester. This will be the Australian premier.
